Alana Thompson became known to audiences as a young girl dubbed “Honey Boo Boo.” Recently, it’s been announced that the reality star will have her own Lifetime biopic. Since then, however, Alana hinted at how she thinks her family will react to the project.

A Misconception Caused Alana Thompson To Become Known To The World As ‘Honey Boo Boo’

Alana and her family first became known to audiences from the TLC series, Toddlers & Tiaras. The family later gained greater fame through the spin-off show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

Both shows highlighted Alana’s years competing in child beauty pageants. While “Honey Boo Boo” actually originated from a taunt Alana gave to another pageant contestant, the phrase soon became associated with Alana herself. As Alana’s family became more known to audiences, a spin-off was also developed revolving around her mother, Mama June, which is also known through various subtitles.

According to People, Alana is also set to be the focus of her own Lifetime biopic, I Was Honey Boo Boo, which will air May 17. Alana also spoke with the publication about her feelings, including some concerns, over the project.

Alana, who is currently studying nursing and living with her boyfriend Dralin Carswell, admitted, “I’m a little nervous.” She also shared that the biopic will open up with what she and her sisters, including her sister Anna, who passed away in 2023, went through off and on the family’s shows.

Alana noted, “I did not want this movie to be throwing punches at my mama and making her out to be the bad guy. But I didn’t hold back and if she gets mad, at the end of the day it’s the truth.”

Back in 2019, as the publication note, Mama June was dealing with addictions. Alana noted, “I noticed something was off about her. She started locking her doors which really made me think, ‘Oh, what is she doing?’”

Alana Shared That She Is Still Hopeful Towards The Future

As she continued, Alana admitted what she went through during Mama June and her then-boyfriend Eugene “Geno” Doak’s 2019 arrest over charges of felony drug possession. Sharing she was taunted at school, Alana also mentioned, “People were like, ‘I saw your mama on the news with a busted tooth, strung out.’ I’m like, ‘Great, like I didn’t see that too.’”

In addition, Alana also touched on the issues she’s had with finances, in spite of her career on television. In addition to denying seeing any money from Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, Alana also claims her mother took earnings she won on Dancing with the Stars, which she eventually returned.

However, Alana felt that she wouldn’t let those times define her. With the help of her sister Lauryn, who became her guardian in 2022, she graduated school in 2023.

Alana continued, “I just always told myself you know that you want to do something better with your life and bigger with your life than just being on TV. So, you’ve got to get up and go, you’ve got to graduate so you can make it to college and be the nurse that you want to be.”

As she continued, Alana also shared she was looking forward to the future. She shared, “When I graduate I’ll be the only one in my family with a degree. I love that I’ve persevered past who people thought I was.”
