Jinger Duggar’s Husband Jeremy Vuolo Reveals “Close Call With Prison”
Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo are feeling extra thankful.
As the former Counting On stars explained, Jeremy “had a close call with prison”—and he’s hoping his story can make others a little more cautious.
“We had a friend from out of state,” the 37-year-old began on the Jinger & Jeremy Vuolo PodcastAug. 20. “They had a car on our property that they were selling.”
According to Jeremy, someone came to buy the car “who was wild.”
“The guy selling it was like, ‘This guy’s crazy,’” he shared. “But he’s here to buy the car, so they make the exchange.”
Jeremy—who shares children Felicity, 6 and Evangeline, 4, and Finnegan, 4 months, with Jinger—ended up with $6,000 in cash that he took to the bank to wire to his friend out of state. But that’s when things quickly took a dramatic turn.
“As I’m depositing the money, the machine would stop halfway through as the money’s going through. It stops,” he explained. “I’m looking at the lady, she goes, ‘Oh.’ Takes a bill out. I look at the machine, it says, ‘Suspect document.’”
The teller quickly let her coworkers know that it was actually counterfeit money—which came as a huge shock to the former soccer player.
“I’m standing there at the counter with $6,000 and all of these counterfeit bills being pulled out by the bank teller,” he continued. “And I’m just thinking, ‘I’m done.’ They’re gonna bring in the cops. They’re gonna do an investigation. They’re gonna run fingerprints or whatever.”
Thankfully, Jeremy shared that “it ended up not being that bad because the money was so obviously fake,” noting that when he felt the fake money it felt like regular paper.
Still, the reality star joked that he felt like a “spectacle at the bank,” but hit a stroke of luck because the counterfeit money was movie money.
“Because it’s essentially a toy. It’s categorized as a toy,” he explained. “Movie money, you can buy like $20,000 of movie money on Amazon for like, 50 bucks. And it’s very clearly not the real thing.”
But if the bills were actually counterfeit? As Jeremy noted, “It would have been a different story.”
The event was extremely stressful for Jinger, who pointed out that Jeremy had actually spent a night in jail in 2008 after being arrested for harassment against a police officer.
The 19 Kids and Counting alum shared that she turned to ChatGPT for help on what could happen, with the AI telling her the worst case scenario: “If it looks like you knowingly tried to pass this counterfeit currency it will lead to federal charges up to 20 years in prison and a hefty fine.”
Luckily, all turned out OK for Jeremy, though he did make sure to urge his fans to check any cash they were paid just in case.
